Program Overview

50-Week Post-Graduate Diploma Program in the Greater Toronto Area.

If you’re a helpful, capable person, who likes to work as part of a team during the examination and treatment of patients, prepare yourself for a rewarding career in Intra-Oral Dental Assisting.

In this role, you would prepare for procedures and assist Dentists and Dental Therapists during dental examinations and treatments. You also get to perform tasks such as applying fluoride, polishing crowns, applying sealants and topical numbing agents, taking impressions, processing x-rays, and more. Clerical duties, including answering phone calls, booking appointments, and invoicing would also be part of your role.

You will also benefit from our fully equipped dental laboratory and highly experienced instructors. Our in-depth diploma program gives you the theoretical and practical experience needed to succeed as a Dental Assistant as part of a professional team.

Invaluable Intra Oral Dental Assisting Skills

During the Intra-Oral Dental Assisting Level 1 & 2 program, you will:

  • Prepare patients for dental examination and assist the dentist during the examination
  • Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment
  • Prepare dental instruments and filling materials
  • Apply fluoride and sealant
  • Take preliminary impressions for diagnostic casts
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene
  • Invoice patients for dental services
  • Schedule patient appointments and record dental procedures performed
  • Order dental and office supplies

You will also perform intra-oral duties such as removing sutures, taking and recording vital signs, applying desensitizing agents, topical anesthetic, and anti-cariogenic agents; and applying and removing rubber dams.

The fully outfitted dental clinic will provide you with the chance to learn in facilities that are similar to what you will encounter when you enter the working world. Training with actual equipment means you will already have bridged any potential knowledge gap when you pursue work at a Dental Clinic. You’ll be familiar with the equipment and procedures, and that confidence will be apparent to your employer, coworkers, and clients.

Oxford College’s Intra-Oral Dental Assisting Program is regulated by the National Dental Assisting Examining Board (NDAEB). Our curriculum prepares you to take the board examination offered by NDAEB. Becoming certified shows that you meet the NDAEB’s professional standards, which employers look for. Gaining this certification proves that you are capable and competent, and it can open employment opportunities to you.
